Just when you think youve seen everything, its guaranteed that
a ginormous high-tech/societal tidal wave will roll in, squashing
you like a little sand crab.
Take childbirth for example. When I became a mom 36 years ago,
technology had taken a giant leap from the era when my mother had
me. The fetal heartbeat could be heard through a special
stethoscope. And when it came time for baby to be born, mommies got
strapped in for the ride. In the Labor Room, contractions were
measured by a gizmo that appeared to be geared to Richter scale
readings.
It nearly ended my marriage.
Here comes the next one! my husband proclaimed as the contraction
intensity...
A whopping 70 people showed up at the Marriott Wardman Park today to protest at CPAC as Occupy DC.
The police cordoned off the protesters away from the hotel, while also forcing off conference attendees who were outside observing the circus. I use the word circus because of the amusement generated by both conference attendees and local observers, at the tiny nature of the protest.
There were the requisite drums and shouting, but nowhere near the number of people most in the mainstream media would expect. As you can see, they all fit quite neatly in a little nook, cordoned off Woodley Road.
Apparently, the AFL-CIO and OccupyDC planners couldnt get enough people lined up to do anything...

Barclays will reveal it has met lending targets and cut pay later this week, it has been reported.
The Sunday Telegraph reports Barclays will protect itself from “banker bashing” when it reveals it has lent 13 per cent or 14 per cent more to British businesses in 2011 than agreed in its Project Merlin deal with the government.
The Project Merlin agreement saw the UK’s five largest banks agree to make £190bn available to companies in 2011, some £11bn more than in 2010. But the individual targets for each bank were not disclosed.
Barclays will also move to appease those upset with bankers’ bonuses by announcing plans to reduce pay by as much...

Obama releases budget proposal
President Obama either reached a grand compromise or pissed off
every single American, depending on your level of nihilism, with
his proposed budget for the next fiscal year. His budget, released
last week, includes cuts to government departments across the board
that would lay off even more state employees while increasing
spending, particularly for energy, education and transportation.
New plans would promote job training programs at community
colleges, rebates for environmental improvements to homes and
nearly doubling the federal highway budget. This spending would be
paid for not by cuts to entitlement programs...
Bank Mandiri, the country’s largest lender by assets, has said its lending grew by almost 30 percent last year.
Pahala Mansury, Mandiri’s chief financial officer, said on Monday that rising lending growth should translate into a “good net income report.”
Lending at Mandiri rose 28 percent last year, surpassing the industry’s overall rate of around 24 percent. “I think our income will be good, in line with our expectations,” Pahala said.
The economy grew 6.5 percent last year, its biggest expansion since the 1997-98 Asian financial crisis, helping to drive lending.
Mandiri’s outstanding loans stood at Rp 246.2 trillion...
Microsoft released nine bulletins to cover 21 vulnerabilities on this months Patch Tuesday.
As revealed by SC Magazine last week, four of the bulletins were rated as critical and covered 21 vulnerabilities in Windows, Office, Internet Explorer and .NET/Silverlight. According to Microsoft Trustworthy Computing spokesperson Angela Gunn, customers should plan to install all of these updates as soon as possible.
She recommended focusing first on two critical updates: MS12-010 and MS12-013. MS12-010 is an update for Internet Explorer and addresses two critical, one important and one moderate issue that affects all versions; the most severe could allow for remote code execution if an attacker...
